PR2 - The ECO-Smart generation

Our world is a gigantic system of subsystems that are interrelated. Environmental problems have become so complex that it is difficult to analyse them without a holistic understanding. And this makes it even more difficult to find a starting point for individual or collective action. Eco-smart means being aware of one’s impact on the environment, striving for improvements and sharing these actions with others. THEMIS has adopted this approach by creating a kit of resources and learning activities to promote environmental awareness among secondary school students.
The aim was to develop innovative pedagogical material for environmental education by creating practical resources and activities for teachers and students that are transferable to other educational settings. New in the sense that the methods used to teach environmental awareness are directly linked to the reality of young people. Firstly, by engaging with their immediate environment and how they can protect or positively change it, and secondly, through activities that are challenging and fun. The result is the so-called “THEMIS challenge” game, which includes introductory videos and factsheets on various environmental topics as well as 24 challenges designed for pupils 12 to 16 years old.
